Txnewbie, Home Buyer in Grapevine, TX

I just came across some homes in Grapevine, TX that have dual school districts. How does that works? Can we choose to go to any school then?

This is the official site GCISD sends you to for verification of schools as well as bus stops and times. If you have a home that goes to Grapevine High for example and you want your child to you go Heritage, you can apply for a transfer as long as it is in district and it is on a first come basis I believe on availability. Keep in mind though, if you are in one schools area and are accepted at another you will be responsible for transportation back and forth. You might be able to get on the other schools route by paying an amount per month or per semester, but again you would be responsible for getting them to and from that bus stop and it is again on an availability basis.

Note that if your child is accepted to a school- for instance 9th grade to a different High School- in my example above- like living in Grapevine and getting accepted to Heritage, as long as you stay living with the GCISD boundaries your child will be be able to attend that high school their entire high school career. Hope this helps and I am just someone buying a house in the area with the same questions.

Go to http://www.gcisd-k12.org

scroll over the "About GCISD column" --- click "Enrolling in GCISD" --- Look to the left at SECTION CONTENTS --- Click on "Maps of school attendance areas" that will show you boundry lines for each school.

There are 11 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, 2 high schools...not including private.

If your considering a move to neighboring areas of Grapevine as well you should also look into this website:

http://www.hebisd.edu/edge/

Birdville ISD (which is outside of Grapevine ISD offers "open enrollment" SOME excellent schools.

HEB ISD (Hurst, Bedford) which neighbors Grapevine offers specialized programs for kids that are very impressive, if accepted your kids can go through the ranks in these schools as well.

If your considering a move to Grapevine I applaud you, it is one of the greatest areas in the metroplex, If you currently own a home our staff can help you transition out of your current residence and relocate to the metroplex plus we offer incentive programs that can save you alot of money on the sale of your home.. If your leasing and just plan to make a move we can help there too. There are many benefits you can take advantage of by purchasing a home through Century 21 Mike Bowman, Inc.

Good luck!

There is no real "dual district" in Grapevine. There are 2 districts that service this area, so depending where you are looking that determines the ISD.

Some school districts do allow the kids to transfer to other school districts or to other schools within the same district. Sometimes that choice is based on enrollment figures and if there is room at the alternate school (and I'm sure there are other criterian as well). I believe children that attend a Title 1 school that has been designated "Needs Improvement" do have the right to transfer to a higher performing school within their district under the No Child Left Behind Program. To my knowledge there are no schools in the Grapevine area that meet that criteria. However, I have seen listings that comment that the "seller states children have the choice to attend "X" school or "X" school." So I completely understand your questions. However, please perform due diligence and check with the school districts in question. They will have the final say on what the attendance zones are and where your children will attend school. Good luck and please let me know if you have any other questions!! Thanks!

Not sure about this. ...doesn't sound right. There are some districts now that allow trades within the district. I believe Birdville does this. I also think there is a place in TC that may allow this, but this sounds unusal so I would ck directly with the school district.

Hi Txnewbie,

A majority of addresses in Grapevine are within the boundaries of the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. Some properties on the northeast side of town are within the Carroll ISD boundaries. I am a Grapevine-based Realtor and have never run into dual districts, though it may be there are areas which have this situation. However, I agree - the school districts would confirm the boundaries and eligibilty of the property. Feel free to contact me if you have further questions about Grapevine, as I live, play and work here!

The experts to render an opinion is the ISD . Due to fact not in Realtors scope of professional practice we are undetermined of the street address, if there is perhaps an error information provided to you.
