The Long Beach Island Consolidated School District serves children, preschool through the sixth grade for children residing in five of the six municipalities on Long Beach Island including Barnegat Light. There are two elementary schools, preschool through 2nd grade attend the Ethel Jacobsen Elementary School in Surf City and children, grades three to six attend the LBI Grade School in Ship Bottom. These schools typically have small classes, good and caring teachers, a lot of parental involvement and an active PTA.

The Middle and High Schools are located in Manahawkin, off the island. Southern Regional Middle School and High School serve Long Beach Island, Stafford Township and Waretown. The class size is a lot larger but the students are well served by a variety of class levels, clubs/activities and sports.
