I live in Whittier, and my kids have been in the school system.... If you can afford the private schools are the way to go..... if not tread carefully. Feel free to call me personally.

Hello Calaia,

I am a 13 year old resident of Whittier and my son currently enrolled in South Whittier School DIstrict.

The reason I am responding to this question is that many people can be deceived when it comes to defining whittier and unincorporated whittier. They have three seperate school districts and it truely depends what area or zipcode you are talking about. Best case senario, you are looking for a home in uptown whittier where the schools are of great standing. The reality is that most people cant afford homes in this are and settle for a starter home in south whittier or east whittier. So if you would like more information before you reach a decision, feel free to contact me at my email. I have a son in the south whittier school district and there are some schools that are preforming below federal standards. After reviewing the schools i decided to enroll my son in Carmella Elementary School. Granted my son is pretty smart and has been performing outstanding academically and this school is at above average standing as well. Rest assured that if you can afford the uptown area go for it! but if you would like help in finding an afordable, beutifull, home with a school that guarantees success, give me a call 562-686-7059. I have current and up to date information of the school districts and would not mind showing you a few of the schools in the area personally.

Hello Calaia! Beautiful name!
I am a 15 year Whittier resident, and both my boys are in the Whittier elementary school system.

There are 59 public and private schools in the city and nearly 10 out of the 30 public schools are at an API rating of 788+. California has a statewide API goal of 800 for all schools. The API is a school performance measurement system which was first developed as part of California's 1999 Public Schools Accountability Act. Early each year, the state calculates the Base API for each school to establish a baseline for the school's academic performance, and it sets an annual target for growth. Each summer, the state announces the Growth API for each school, which reflects growth in the API from year to year.

Private schools do not have this rating, however I am also familiar with these schools and can give you more detail about any school.

I have been a Realtor in Whittier and the surrounding areas for many years and can tell you about each of the neighbrohoods in the city. Whittier is a wonderful place to live. We have that small town atmosphere and a wonderful mix of Craftsman and Spanish early 1900's homes to mid-century ranch homes on sprawling lots to brand new developments and condos. With the new Whittwood Town Centre we can now compete with neighboring city choices for great restaurants, along with great anchor stores such as Target, Sears, Penneys and many small interesting shops. There is also the hometown feel of Uptown Whittier which has many unique shops and restaurants as well. Wednesdays are the Farmers Market with great fresh produce and other products.

Give me a call so we can talk more about the type of home, neighborhood, and feel you are looking for in your home purchase. I would love to show you around this great city.
