Hello Calaia! Beautiful name!
I am a 15 year Whittier resident, and both my boys are in the Whittier elementary school system.
There are 59 public and private schools in the city and nearly 10 out of the 30 public schools are at an API rating of 788+. California has a statewide API goal of 800 for all schools. The API is a school performance measurement system which was first developed as part of California's 1999 Public Schools Accountability Act. Early each year, the state calculates the Base API for each school to establish a baseline for the school's academic performance, and it sets an annual target for growth. Each summer, the state announces the Growth API for each school, which reflects growth in the API from year to year.
Private schools do not have this rating, however I am also familiar with these schools and can give you more detail about any school.
I have been a Realtor in Whittier and the surrounding areas for many years and can tell you about each of the neighbrohoods in the city. Whittier is a wonderful place to live. We have that small town atmosphere and a wonderful mix of Craftsman and Spanish early 1900's homes to mid-century ranch homes on sprawling lots to brand new developments and condos. With the new Whittwood Town Centre we can now compete with neighboring city choices for great restaurants, along with great anchor stores such as Target, Sears, Penneys and many small interesting shops. There is also the hometown feel of Uptown Whittier which has many unique shops and restaurants as well. Wednesdays are the Farmers Market with great fresh produce and other products.
Give me a call so we can talk more about the type of home, neighborhood, and feel you are looking for in your home purchase. I would love to show you around this great city.
