There are so many wonderful schools in Frederick County. One of the best ways to find out what would be the best school suited for your children would be for you to visit the website at http://greatschools.org/.
As a parent of 4 children myself I realize the importance of finding the right schools for your children.

The website has some very helpful information. You may also set up appointments with the principals of the schools that you are considering to visit and to take a tour, which can also be very helpful because you can ask one on one questions.

I hope that was helpful. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me directly.

Dear Mom of 2,

The FCPS.org website gives you a lot of wonderful information about the schools, along with all their test scores, so it makes it easy to select a school that will work for you.

As a mom of two myself, the right schools were very important to me and we have been offered such wonderful opportunities in Frederick County. The International Baccalaureate program is a program offered at one of our high schools which we have taken advantage of.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to chat about our experiences or I could direct you to some additional information through websites or the Frederick County Public Schools office.

You can email me at liz.burrow@comcast.net

Dear Mom of 2,

From the Maryland State Department of Education's website (google the Department's site for links to Education Week and the College Board)

"For the third straight year, Maryland's public education system received two Number One national rankings in 2011—from Education Week and from the College Board for AP performance. This is truly exciting for Maryland's public education system and worthy of celebrating. We should all be truly proud of these consistent and remarkable accomplishments.
--Nancy S. Grasmick, State Superintendent of Schools"

A number of individual high schools in Frederick County have achieved Blue Ribbon status from the Department of Education. You can check each individual school's achievement metrics at its website. Try the Schools tab at fcps.org.

Frederick County's Urbana High School is home to this year's National Teacher of the Year. Yes, NATIONAL TEACHER of the Year, Ms. Michelle Shearer. Ms. Shearer, the nation's 61st, was recognized at the White House along with 49 other state winners on May 3. Ms. Shearer, a graduate of Princeton University, teaches chemistry.

You might also check REALTOR.COM for a quick metric from Great Schools. For each home listed, a school metric is included.

Finally, feel free to call the school and schedule an interview with the principal and a guidance counselor. Nothing can give you a better feel for a school than being in it. This recommnedation comes from my wife, a retired educator, who now works with me in real estate.

Let me know if we can be of further assistance. Email: petert@machomes.com or 240.529.0120.
