Hello Betty,

The Morgan Hill schools do not charge per student, per se as the agent before mentioned. However, since per student funding has been reduced over the years fees are requested. I am a mother of two in the MH public schools and we do pay fees for certain requests in order to attain the best public school education pssible.

Hello Betty and thanks for your post.

Thanks to a landmark case that will be settled this month between the State of California and the ACLU, schools will no longer be allowed to charge any fees for most supplies, uniforms and/or extras. As a result, students will find most fees disappearing in the next year.

Unfortunately, the loss of these fees will also likely result in limited services in the future and the probable elimination of most extra curricular activities, field trips and enrichment programs. What the additional loss of funds may also mean is redistricting for many communities, and that may create even greater concerns in the long run--we'll have to see.

In the meantime, these changes make my campaign to raise $100,000 for public schools even more critical than ever before! If you are planning to buy or sell a home in the near future, our agents are pledging to donate $1,000 from the commission for each home sale to the local public schools. Our schools are struggling and we're planning to help in any way that we can. Please help us improve schools in California. Call me if I can be of any help in your home purchase.

Sincerely,

Merry Christmas Betty,

Public schools in Morgan Hill do not charge to attend, per se. The actual basic education's costs are covered through property taxes.

Some extra curricular activies, however, charge for participation. Athletes, musicians, cheerleaders etc. pay for physicals, some transportation, some of their equipment etc. Club activity also has much of their costs borne by the members and their families.

Some students who live in remote corners of the school district's boundry may have to contribute toward the busing costs.

Some significant trips for students will cost them. The costs for students who attend honary State or National events will usually necessitate fund raisers.

Morgan Hill's public education, itself, does not cost the student. However, as listed above, many students will have to pay for some of their schooling's experience.
