I applied for it and did get a reply from the "owner" but the "owner" said he was out of town and won't be able to show the property.
Also, he asked me to fill out rental application ASAP (which i unfortunately did). I asked him to share phone number multiple times which he didn't! Also, number shown by listing doesn't work.
I am convinced it is a scam!

I found another listing which I believe to be fraudulent, at 2905 De La Vina St. The "owner" wants me to send him money without letting me see inside the apartment first. In his first email to me, he was living in Florida. Now he is suddenly living in Nigeria. I have told him I am in a wheelchair and will not rent an apartment without being able to go inside and finding out if I can go through the doorways to the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. He will not make that possible, and wants me to send him money in advance. I believe this to be a fraudulent listing. ... more

I would love to help you out but can you help me out with a few things? Where will your daughter be studying? Santa Barbara City College or UCSB? The campuses are located in different parts of the city. also what is your rental budget? Depending on where you want or need to be, there can be quite different costs for rent.

Please give me a call!

Tom Bashe answered:

This bodes true in pretty much any area where the rents are FAR BELOW the actual averages. Scammers infiltrate sites like Trulia & Craigslist to prey on unsuspecting potential renters. I would recommend to NEVER send money before confirming the person is either the owner of the property or has the right to represent the property (Property Mgmt company). Age old statement is if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is. If this was helpful to you, please click BEST ANSWER & enjoy your day!
