Both of my sons graduated from Serra High School. It is an amazing institution with involved parents and a caring faculty. Serra is really a community of people who share the value of a good education, while also teaching the importance of maintaining a high moral standard. Both sons played sports and learned discipline and teamwork from the experience. ... more

What is your question regarding San Mateo High School?
In general it is a good school, that is seemingly under constant growth. They have done a lot recently to upgrade the general appeal of the buildings.
Academically, they have done well: In 2009, 266 students took AP exams with 79% pass rate (3 or higher). You may also find this link helpful :

Welcome to California. Your best bet is to either look on Craigs list or find a rental agent or property managemnt company. $1,500 wont get you much here on the Peninsula, maybe a 1 bedroom, or possible 2.

Best of luck.

I was in jazz bank way back and I was asked to join. It a good idea to join the concert band and have your child prove themselves. And of course, as the first woman stated, try out. Talk to the music teacher to see which course of action will work best. Good luck! ... more

Hi Sp,

What exact area/neighborhood in San Mateo are you in? Being born and raised in San Mateo I know a lot about the private schools.

Do you mind if there is a religious denomination? If so, do you have a preference?

Here is a list of good private schools in or near the 94402 zip code. As far as acceptance requirements and dates you would have to call and find out.

St. Mathew's Catholic (94402)
Odyssey School (94402) [Non denominational]
St. Mathew's Episcopal (94401)
Nueva (94010 - Hillsborough) [Non denominational]
Our Lady of Angels (94010 - Burlingame)
St. Catherine's (94010 - Burlingame)
St. Gregory's (94403)
Carey School (94403)

Give me a call if you want to talk private schools (or real estate) :)

Hi PC, yes it is a magnet school. Please visit the website for more info, plase see enclosed.

If you would like, I would be more than happy to send you listings in the Oak Knoll neighborhood whenever they become available. FYI, just because you move into the area doesn't always get you into a certain school, so make sure to do your own due diligence.

Best of luck,

San Mateo has one really top elementary school: Baywood. There isn't a really good intermediate school in San Mateo, and each of the 3 high schools are excellent and offer different things for different kids. Within the San Mateo/Foster City Elementary district, you should also look at Foster City schools -- all 3 elementary are about equal to Baywood. The intermediate school in Foster City, Bodwitch, is the best of all of the intermediate schools in the district. ... more
