This info provided from a family memeber who has had two children who have attended Sequoia, one currently a Freshman. Just an FYI her children have also attended Serra High School.

Here's what she has to say-

IB and ICAP programs are highly sought after and there are only two schools between San Mateo and Palo Alto that offer them: Sequoia and an expensive private school in Palo Alto.

I believe they have the highest volume of applicants and transfer requests (they also take the most due to the above program, they have more seats for students).

They got a new principal two years ago who is great, enforces a dress code, very hands on and has helped to change the culture. Finally, there sports program is great: Football went all the way to CCS this year.

If you have a high school student today, Sequoia is the school everyone wants to go to.

I agree with Chuck.
Parents in both cities are happy with the local public schools.
As a 23 year resident of San Carlos, both of my boys went to San Carlos public schools and did just fine.
Another website to look at is www.greatschools.net.
I do not think you can go wrong either way.
Burlingame is perhaps a little more "upscale" while San Carlos maybe is a little more "down home".
I believe it just comes down to personal preference as to which community you like best.

Here's a link with the San Mateo County API Scores:

and here's the school boundary for San Carlos:

As Raziel correctly states, each school district has their own websites as well, which are good resources. One important thing to remember is that certain schools may be impacted (there are a couple in San Carlos) so just because you buy into a particular neighborhood doesn't mean you're guaranteed admittance to school district that you're zoned for. Be sure to check before you buy.

Hope this helps!
