The B.C. Academies are a very nice alternative to your local high school. The woman was right in that the core subjects are taught to everyone, but the culinary academy has some different scheduling, I think. Best thing is to contact the principal's office and ask for the phone number or email address for the faculty member in charge of that particular academy, but I would also ask to speak to a current parent of a student in that school. YOu might want to check with your local middle school guidance office in Rutherford and see who they know is attending the academies a year or two ahead of your child. Then you can talk to a parent in your own district.
My oldest son went to the Academies in the late 1990's and had a very good experience, though not the greatest one. My main message to you, as a parent, is: if your child really wants it, then support him/her. If you really want it, then listen to your child. They are not for everyone.
