I agree with previous commenters, it depends on the area and what is popular, but also what will last longer. Vinyl will definitely be more durable, so I would think that using it, even though it's more expensive upfront, will save you money in the long run if you are going to be in the home for a while. I would especially do the vinyl since it's a middle upper class home, because future buyers will be looking for higher quality materials.

It sort of depends on what buyers like to see. Have you talked with any agents about what siding is attractive. Of course you want to replace your siding with a material that will be covered. Maybe you should ask around and see what other options you have. ... more
