Specifically, RH School District (RHSD) started a "ASD program" in about 2005 based on the TEACCH model of UNC. Basically, certain schools have a "safe room" with hopefully a qualified special ed teacher that when students on the Spectrum become overwhelmed in the regular ed classroom, they can retreat to this safe room. Where your child is on the spectrum (high or low end) determines the amount of Inclusion (less or greater than 60%) the child receives. RHSD is no better or no worst than other districts educating children with disabilities.

As you know and regardless the school district, the IEP is a legal documents that transfers with the child to the new school. Make certain that ALL accommodations and services are clearly spelled out and are contained in the IEP BEFORE you make the move. As you should also know, as the parent, you are your child's best advocate, and know your child's exact needs. RHDS, like most districts, will not volunteer services that cost money - you must ask. At the end of the day, the quality of special ed educational services provided to your child will depend on the quality of the special ed at that specific school.

School staff will not like it but it is a MUST that you literally write your concerns in the IEP minutes at the end of every IEP meeting. If not contained in the IEP minutes - your concern (s) and requests do not exists. Never let them "remove" an accommodation or service, even if the child doesn't need at that time.

In Rock Hill, Sunset point is the only waterfront community that offers townhomes and has an array of amenities. There is a great beach which you found out about, a nice pool that overlooks the lake, boat and recreational vehicle storage and the boardwalk and picnic areas. There is no subdivision like it in Rock Hill. This is the most affordable community in Rock Hill that offers water access. However, I will add that in order to have a boat slip at the marina in the community, you must own a waterfront property. Without waterfront property, if you were to buy into the neighborhood and wanted access with your boat, you would have to put into the water at Ebenezer Park, Allison Creek or another area. You could moor on the community beach for day use only.

The Gates at Eastview is a new development in it's beginning stage. There is a subdivistion across the street, the Parks at Eastview, that is selling rather rapidly, though. The area around McConnell's highway and York Hwys are growing, but not necessarily at the rate of some of the areas in and around I-77 which are older developments. But houses are selling in that area. It's not a heavily populated area to begin with and most residents in the area like it that way. Five years ago, hardly any subdivisions were in that area at all, so it's a new area of Rock Hill that is definitely on its way. Ross, let me know if you need any additioanl assitance or if you can specifically let me know what you mean by a growth area. All of the homes in the area right now are prime for buyers, I know that like other homes in the country the momentum will shift in one way or the other towards it being a buyer's or seller's market depending on the economy.
