You will probably have better luck in Rochester or Penfield than Pittsford. You need to contact a local realtor to assist you. You may need to keep your options open and you may need to give up your dogs. Bear in mind that when renting a house, the owner worries about damage from your dogs and you may need to pay for additional insurance to protect the owner for any unforseen damage from the dogs.
If having difficulty, offer to pay additional insurance. You may need to in order to rent. The other issue is homeowners would rather sell than rent. Owners don't want to be landlords and they may need the sale proceeds to move forward.... more
