Heather - you have probably already figured this out. Agents can't really tell you the truth of an area. Here's what you do: Call the RPD - ask them about the crime rate in the area you are interested in. By the way - if this is near Lafayette. Academy Street etc - you may want to think twice. Do a drive by during the day - are people home or are they working? Is the property maintained well? How are they managing their rubbish? Are there so many people per unit that it is spilling over even though it isn't trash day? What is the ratio of owners to rentals? How are the schools? I am not dissin' Lafayette or Academy - the streets are lovely - have potential and most of the people want to be part of the change. However, there are some slum lords there and a history of DV and drug situations.... Form your own and more educated opinion by asking the pd, fire department and a teacher in the district. ... more
