I don't know what you're looking for, but there are so many houses 'out there' that can be purchased at very low amounts. However, you must realize that most of the time, these homes need a lot of work and aren't anything close to being 'show homes.' But if you are willing to deal with some fixing-up and/or maybe some other factors that might be reasons the home is inexpensive, then you can find a big value in getting an inexpensive home.
There are several areas in the Indianapolis area, but Anderson is also an excellent area where the low-cost homes are in abundance. You should connect with a realtor and let them know what you are really looking for, they should be able to help you find a home to your liking. Realtors have many resources that can help you.
If you are looking for rentals, however, I would say that a realtor is not the only place you can get leasing information. Most of the time, homes that are in the multiple-listing service for rent are higher-end homes - but not always. Local newspapers and community boards are often a good source, as well as Craigslist sometimes. And the trusty 'For Rent' sign in the yard can always be a good one to stop and check out. If you would like me to send you an app for your smartphone so you can look up local rentals, just text H6L to 87777 for the Prudential mobile app.
Good luck in your home search.
