I agree with Laura. I would only add that by taking a prior rental to an eviction status, you've demonstrated not only that you were a "problem" but that you were an extreme problem. That will cause many/most landlords great concern. Lori mentions some great ways to reduce those concerns.

While it is not impossible to find a landlord willilng to work with you, it is much more difficult when there is an eviction on record. Because you have a prior history of a problem in a rental property, you pose a higher risk to any future landlord. The best policy is to be up front with any landlords you contact - before you set up an appointment to view a rental - and explain your situation. This way you are not wasting your time or their time if they will not consider you as a tenant. It will require a landlord who is willing to provide a second chance. This may be easier if the rental you are looking at is less than what you had been paying at another place, if there were were circumstances such as roommates that did not foot the bill, or domestic issues. Your best chances will be with an individual landlord who will be more willing to take on the risk either with a co-signer or extra deposits paid up front than a management company with policies designed to take on as little risk as possible. Good luck in your search...
