how can i find out how a landlord is. how was the previous tenant treated?

You can google the landlords name, the name of the complex, and or the address of the unit. Some disgruntled tenants may have posted comments on sites such as topix etc.

You can try asking the landlord for previous tenant contact information--also try asking neighbors questions...

Hello Karen,
I suggest that you either call to make an appointment to speak with the landlord or interview him over the phone. Ask about the previous tenants and how long they lived there and if they experienced any problems with the rental unit and how the issues were resolved. If the landlord refuses to answer your questions or seems put off then that might be an indication of his skills on being a helpful landlord.
