When you are that inspired to do a home make-over, maybe it's time for you to think about home ownership! Owning your own home allows you the freedom to make these choices without worrying about landlords, and when you upgrade your house it will be for your equity, not the landlords! If you are going to buy something better than what is there, discuss it with your landlord to see if you can take that home improvement off of part of your rent, if you are increasing the value of their home!! Chandeliers are considered "fixtures" and something that is attached to the home directly and therefore the present Chandeliers is the property of the landlord and that is why you need permission!

Check your lease and call the landlord to make sure there isn't a problem putting a hole in the wall, or to see whether or not you are allowed to hard-wire the light fixture.

The owner just wants to make sure your aren't putting holes in the walls that will need to be repaired after you leave, and also that you do not start a fire.

You should check with your landlord/management company - they may allow you to do so and ask to put their original one back before you move out.
