Even as a past renter and I too am a real estate agent I have had more success looking on my own in classifieds, craigslist, etc. As far as thinking you are selling yourself short by using an agent is insaine. A real estate agent is always there for your protection. It is there full time job and it would be foolish to think you can out preform them in a weekend. That is if they're good.

You see, I generally stay away from homes that have a middle man involved - unfortunately ALL the homes on Trulia do. I DO NOT LIKE dealing with realtors. I wish more home owners would realize that they are missing out on a huge market by using realtors.

You could always stop wasting your time by not using the Trulia site. Problem solved.

You should have a Realtor to represent you and help you negotiate the lease terms. It won't cost you anything and could save you hundreds.

Over to the right of every listing is a box that has a "contact this property" button.
