You can begin researching and narrowing down areas of interest now; also choose an agent to work with who can keep you up to date with new listings, that way you have the time to modify your criteria should it become necessary.

What area are you looking in? What' your price range? It's always good to know these things beforehand. Yes, it is too early, usually people look 4-6 weeks before initially renting a place.

I am looking in sheepsheade in the hopes of finding a more upscale apartment at a cheaper price but if i find something closer to manhattan that would be great too. Looking for a one bedroom and possibly a studio for around 1500-1600.
