My name is Rebecca Johnson and I am a college student looking for an apartment. are there any real estate agents that can help me out in denver?

Asked by Rebecca, Denver, CO Sat Jun 23, 2012

Im from New Mexico and I'm living out here on my own. I've found that trying to find an apartment by myself is becoming difficult. I've called a couple of real estate places to see if they could help me but they don't do that sort of thing.

Rebecca,

You need to contact Property Managers that specialize in rentals and leasing. Most Real Estate Brokers and companies only handle the purchase and sales of real estate. Here is a company that I have refered clients to before. If you ever decide to purchase let me know. It is normally better to purchase than to rent. i wrote an article about this recently - http://j.mp/JFzjYI. Best of success to you.

Here's a good place for locating rentals:

About the only thing that a realtor can do that you can't is find the "for rent" signs. A significant percentage of independent landlords use only a sign, and don't post on Craigslist.

Rebecca,
That's true; we Realtors deal with sales and purchases not rentals - for the most part. Usually the only time we get involved with rentals is when we have a vacant home for sale where the owner is open to renting until it sells. I suggest you pick up a copy of Apartment Guide or Apartment Finders. It contains hundreds of rental properties. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding neighborhoods; distance from the campus; getting around town; etc. Feel free to call me. 303.973.7600.

I recommend Rentals.com, Craigslist and visiting Real Estate offices in the neighborhoods you like. If you want assistance with a lease, give me a call and we can discuss my rate/experience. The rental market is much more competitive because it is difficult to qualify for a mortgage and many would-be buyers are instead renting.

Look into property management companies. As you say, few realtors deal in rentals. Craig'sList is another source. Good luck!
