Especially in today's market, plenty of individuals who have experienced a bankruptcy are applying for mortgages. I highly recommend you work with a local credit union, who is likely to give your case more personal attention and understanding. The things you should really be concerned about is your proof of income and credit payment history since the bankruptcy.

If you'd like, I'd be happy to refer you to a lender who'd be pleased to hear from you. Just contact me here on trulia or via my website at http://www.nashvillespropertysearch.com

Three years is the soonest.. You can however begin to dispute the accounts that are being reported as discharged in bankruptcy. You may want to begin challenging the accounts with the credit bureaus.

Usually 3 years from date of discharge. Make sure your credit is PERFECT after bankruptcy!

The best person to ask would be a local lender in Gallatin - I can recommend some great ones to you! They have told me that it all depends on what type of bankruptcy you filed - a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13, and if a previously-owned home was involved in the BK. A lot of people got caught up in the declining real estate market in recent years and had to file BK, but are now back on the road towards home ownership again. If you keep your rental & utility payments current, it is a great way to start re-establishing credit (and always pay with checks or online banking so a proper record is retained). With interest rates low and monthly rental prices increasing, it's a great time to start thinking about buying a home! It will be very difficult unless you are paying in all cash.
