It is a scam. This happens all the time on Craig's List. Usually, they will take an existing rental that is advertised somewhere else and put it on Craig's List for a reduced price.
If you see something like this on Craig's List, there are three places you can look to see if it is a scam. In our valley, most rentals are advertised in our Multiple Listing Service (MLS) or two different property management companies that do not participate in the MLS.
Whenever you see any properties like this give your agent a call. They will almost always be a scam, but your agent should be able to clarify it for you. They can also send you active properties that are currently for sale in your price range. This way you don't waste your time on the scams.
Tammy, This listing fits the "if it looks too good be true it probably isn't" Homes rent for between $1.00 - $1.50 per square foot based on location and size. The smaller home the higher per sq. ft. and the larger the home the less per sq. ft. Gated Homes in Valencia rent at a higher fee while older home in Canyon Country may be available for less money.

Hi Tammy, That sounds way to low for a home just over 3000 sqft. Many renters have moved into homes that the homeowner no longer intends to keep due to financial difficulties, I am not saying this is the situation with this property, however go with your gut instinct if it sounds to good to be true... I had a client rent a home only to discover a few months into the contract the homeowner stopped paying their mortgage and the home was being foreclosed upon. I did a blog on this for anyone wanting to know their tenant rights if faced with this situation.
