Is it ok to contact the agent/seller of a house that has been on the market for more than 120 days about the possibility of renting?

Yes. It will depend on the seller circumstance and situation if the seller can lease.

Keep in mind this is a great time to buy and financing is available even with low scores.

I would like nothing more right now than to buy. I'm paying $1100 renting an apartment. We lost a home to foreclosure in 2010 and now ex-husband is losing second home - my name on both loans. I don't stand a chance in getting financed. (my scores are low/mid 600's and only about $3000 in savings) Thanks for your answer!
