Also walk around there in the evening or on a weekend when people are home and kids are home and see if you like the neighborhood.

Julie, thanks a lot for your replies. After seeing crime reports (for that ZIP Code), I am beginning to get paranoid ! I am visiting the place this week and will walk around the area to see if I like it.

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

As a real estate agent who has lived in the neighborhood for a decade, I have never had any problems and have been also know to keep some very late hours. It is certainly not a problem to walk around the neighborhood, but if coming home late at night, you may prefer a taxi from the ferry. If you are used to other neighborhoods in New York City, you shouldn't have any problems at all. Best wishes!

Furthermore visit the building several times and ask the residents of the build so . Tell them you are thinking of moving to this building and they most likely will tell you everything good and bad. Furthermore I don't know how accurate the crime records are since that area is improving every day with the new wheel being built and so much new construction. The area has pockets like most areas on the North Shore so in my opinion it is hard to judge from police records. Good Luck in your endeavor.

Welcome to Staten Island, New York's best kept secret. Builder and developers are scrabbling to find the next NYC borough to build and expand. Watch out because here comes Staten Island. This borough has so much to offer and the St. George - Tompkinsville neighborhood is about to explode. Remember this neighborhood houses both the Staten Island Supreme Court and The Federal Court house, the 120th Precint, Snug Harbor, The St. George Theatre, fantastic bars, and restaurants. The Ferry ride is simply 20 minutes and so much fun to ride and meet tourists on both your way to work and on your way home.

If you're looking to explore Staten Island, just give me a call or email me. I am a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson and a resident of Staten Island.

You be the judge. Sea View Estates are protected by the NYPD's 120th Precinct. Here are the most accurate and current crime statistics for the 120 Precinct. http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloads/pdf/crime_statistics/…
