Contact is insisting to reserve before arrival. Also what is the right or best way to find a 1 month rental?

Hi Will,

I owned a 2-bedroom condo at Kaiolu Sunrise. 2 BRs there fo for $2300 to $3000. One bedrooms go for 1/3 less, $1600 to $2000.
Some items that are wrong off the top of my head:
Parking is garage not carport
That is not a photo of the inside of Kaiolu apartments
None of the units have 2 spaces except the penthouse
There is no gas, only electricity
There is no sauna

I do not handle any rentals, sorry. A few caveats:
1. Do not do any transactions over the Internet. That is, do not pay anyone anything until you or someone you know sees the actual apartment. (most for vacation rentals) is pretty safe if the owner and apartment has been there more than a year.
2. Verify who the legal owner is. Send me the address you want to check and I will send you the name of the legal owner. Unless there is some unusual arrangement, the lease will have the owner's name, or the rental agency representing the owner.
3. Good rentals go fast. Fill out a generic application and keep it handy. Make a few copies. If you find a place you like, take it. Most short-term rentals will accept a credit card deposit.
4. Make sure you have dedicated parking for the entire length of the lease.
5. Refer to #1 when in doubt.

Sounds like it for that price. Tell the contact to meet with a point of contact you hopefully have here. Don't send the deposit and why is the deposit more than the rent? That goes against the Hawaii landlord tenant code section 44(b) here… for one month rentals.

Looks like a total scam.

Best way to find a 1-month rental? Google vacation rental property management companies. A quality 2-bedroom vacation rental should start at about $4,000/mo. in Waikiki, Diamond Head or Kahala.
