Try to write a letter for the owner describing exactly what your situation is and why your credit bad. Ive seen this help in the past.

Thanks

You'll have better luck with a private owner instead of a large apartment complex. Almost everyone will require a copy of your credit report, with a private landlord you'll be able to discuss your credit challenges and hopefully get them to understand your situation. Large apartment complexes aren't as flexible.

Good Luck, I wish you the best.

Be persistent and be flexible. Explore all options.....use Craigs List, look here on Trulia, and reach out to a local REALTOR.
