I highly advise working with agents/brokers directly, especially for apartments. Rentals come off the market much faster compared to houses and it becomes really hard to keep track of updated information. Many times an agent or even a broker has to contact multiple parties to gain the slightest amount of information.

Another worthy note is Trulia's messaging service. For me, it sometimes ends up in the spam folder (I do NOT put it there). I STRONGLY recommend calling, texting or emailing THE LISTING AGENT. PLEASE provide an actual email, its a night and day difference.

The listing agent is typically found at the bottom of the page. He or she will have access to the best, most reliable information and in most cases, easy access to the apartment!

As an agent, I get many email communications requesting more information about some of my listings. I respond to all of them asking them what specific information would they like, or do they want or would they like to schedule an appointment? To which 9.5 times out of 10 I get no response! Agents deal with this all the time. That said, agents should respond to every enquiry.
Perspective buyers or tenants that pick up the phone and call I find are much more serious. I answer my phone at all times and the likelihood of needing to leave a voice mail is less than 10% during the hours of 8.00 am - 8.00 pm after those hours it is more likely you may get my voice mail, but I will always return calls within the same day. That said, not all my voice mails are returned!
On all listings there is a phone number, call it. If no answer leave a specific voice mail, if no response within an hour or so, call again. If no response, work with an agent of your own choosing, depending on what it is you are looking for, the lower rent and price ranges the less likely that some agents will co-operate with buyers/tenants agents.....they feel the commissions are just too small for it to be worth their time!
The more specific you are in what you want from an agent, the easier it is for them to help you.
Good luck.

Not sure why your inquiries are going unanswered, but keep in mind that not all agents are created equal. Have you tried calling instead; better yet why not simply work with an agent of your own, they all have access to the same information....
