These days you'll want to secure employment first, then look for a home.
Due to super high demand most landlords will want to see that you have a paycheck and even ask to see your first paycheck before you can sign a lease.

Lots of homes with 3bed/2bath for about $1250/month to give you an idea.

Affordable is in the eye of the payor. You might look on this website and pan the map around to areas that are of interest to you. But, first set the number of bedrooms and price limits.

Megan,
Since you are looking for "affordable" rental properties, I would recommend working with an apartment locator service. The rental home prices in Plano are going to start around the $1100 per month range. Currently there are over 100 houses available for rent with prices ranging from $1095 to over $4000 per month.

Welcome to Texas! I'm sure you will love it here.

Hi Megan,

In most cases it will be hard to get a lease if you're not already employed. Once you've gotten the job nailed down we'll be glad to help with your search.

All the best,

I'd more than happy to help. When you are going to need this rental property? How many bedrooms are you looking into and how much are you willing to pay for rental?

You can call me and so we can discuss your rental need.

Thanks!
