To avoid getting ripped off. I tell plenty of renters it is always smart to work with license professionals. Even if you don't work with me, the listing agent and tenant's agent have to abide by a code of ethics.

Thank you,

Thank you for taking the time to write about this very common issue. Landlords and Tenants should be worry because rental scams are on the rise as criminals move in to take advantage of the strong rental demand that we are experienced in the past year across the nation.

All the Best,

I believe is the same guy, he had another listing and I contacted him through my moms email and he even sent me the same renters lease. I even contacted trulia and one of the supervisors called me. They should do something about this. I have a friend that got scammed like this.

Thanks for your warnings , I had of my listings hijacked once ,they made up a fake e mail address with owners name and posted it on Craigslist . I realized something was wrong when people started to call me about that made up rental price - way under listing price and out of town "owner" who requested to send $$ in order to get the keys to property .Be careful !

Thank you for this information. We as realtors constantly warn renters never to send money via the Internet for a rental. There are just too may pitfalls involved and there is a very strong possibility that the ad they are responding to is a fake.

When you deal with licensed real estate agents, you know you are working with people whose code of ethics says they will deal with you honestly and fairly at all times.

Wendy,
Thank you. Similar scams have taken place in other parts of Florida as well. A few years ago in the Port Orange area, scammers were locating vacant homes for sale and advertising them as rentals on Craigslist. The main appeal of these ads was the unusually reasonable rental amount. It just sounded too good to be true. Unfortunately, it was.

You minimize your risk when you transact with realtors.

This all gets avoided.
