You can ask the landlord anything you want. Whether or not he can or cannot answer is something different.

If you were a policeman would you want the landlord sharing your personal info? Put the shoe on the other foot.

Legal occupation is a protected class under NYC fair housing laws. He cannot answer that question.

GOOD AFTERNOON,

YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY ASK ANY QUESTION YOU HAVE. THEM ANSWERING YOU IS ANOTHER STORY. THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SHARE PRIVACY ISSUES OF OTHER TENANTS.

Hi Amy -
I too agree with Tammy, but, more importantly why are you even asking this question? Is there a problem where you live?

I am just being paranoid I guess, I feel like having a cop in my building makes it safer.

Amy,

I don't see any reason why that question cannot be asked.
