what is the cost of an average rental license in southern NJ beaches?

Asked by Concerned In Oc, 08226 Wed Sep 8, 2010

The fee for a rental license in Ocean City NJ is $175. That seems excessive to me. What are the fees in Avalon and Sea Isle City and other coastal cities. Thanks

Are you talking about a Certificate of Occupancy Fee or a separate Rental Fee. Some see it as an additional tax on rental property owners. Some see it as a fee to cover "extra" protection services required by rental units.

Some towns do their certificate of occ and do the fire inspection. Others have one person doing one and another doing another.

The fee is "fair".

In Avalon, the RENTAL LICENSE FEE is $150. per unit. The FIRE INSPECTION FEE - $50. per unit- ($15 for each add’l unit at same address); If you have a unit within a multi-dwelling, the FIRE fee will be paid by your condo association; only the RENTAL fee will be due. In Sea Isle the mercantile license for rental units is $125.
As you can see Ocean City license fees are not exorbitant when compared to their neighboring cities!

You should talk to your local tax assessor's office or city hall
