I am moving to Winchester in mid-April, I'm trying to decide whether I should rent or buy?

Asked by Nell, Republic of the Marshall Islands Sat Mar 15, 2008

I've been living overseas for the past four years and don't know how long I"ll be in Winchester, but perhaps for no more than three years. I am only intersted in old properties, preferably something built prior to 1945. Any Ideas? Also, I need a temporary, furnished place to stay while I find my permanent residence. Thanks.

Hi Nell, I have a son in the Navy station in Japan. He is already talking about buying. I think now is a great time for buyers in the Winchester area. Prices are down and interest rates are good. If you are going to live in the area for 3 years @ 1500 a month you will spend $54,000 in rent! There are great tax benefits to buying. Let me know if I can help. Beth

I was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley.

If you have to be inside Winchester, so be it, but there are great places just outside Winchester that would be easier on the wallet and better for relaxation. You may even want to consider Martinsburg, WV.

There are studio apartments in Winchester to rent on a month to month basis... here is a pretty good one: Candlewood Suites 1135 Millwood Pike
Winchester, VA 22602 United States (USA). That way you can only bring your clothes and leave the rest packed and in storage... you will only have to move one time.....

Relative to housing prior to 1945, there is a historic distric in Winchester.... They call it Olde Town. Check out the site at http://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/VAmainstreet/win.htm If you would like me to refer you to a great agent let me know.... Glenda Marks 980-322-2532
