When is the best time for kitchen remodeling in San Francisco? I heard the least busy times are the best times since there is no competition.

I believe the best time is when it suits you. You will get a number of bids, therefore making the playing field pretty even. You are able to determine which bid suits you best. You are never going to know when a particular contractor is busy or not. SF has thousands of them. If they don't happen to be busy, you will probably get a pretty good bid from them. You might ask the contractor before they do a bid, "how busy are you?" This will clue you into whether this contractor is going to give you a competitive bid or not. Someone who is pretty busy usually gives a higher bid because they are not hungry for the work. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure when the best time to remodel would be as I am not familiar with that area. If I were you, I would talk to a real estate agent and see if they can help you decide when it's right for you. They should be able to give you a time frame on when remodeling would be best! http://capitalconstructionmemphis.com/kitchens/

Some contractors may be willing to reduce their fee during the winter months when business is on the slow side.

You may also get better service when they are slow, as they are not rushing your job to get to the next one or trying to juggle you, and a few other clients all at once.

Best of luck to you!!

She's right, winter months are usually the cheapest times. Some companies have a hard time finding business during that time, so they lower their prices. I would recommend searching online for different companies in your area. Some of them may even be advertising deals. http://www.arochadesignbuild.com

Thanks, Kawain! I'm so glad you were able to answer this question. I have been trying to find a contractor to remodel my kitchen, and you helped me realize that now -- during the winter -- is the best time. I will have to continue searching for a contractor to remodel my kitchen. I can't wait to get rid of my terrible counters. http://www.colemanjonesconstruction.com/services

I was going to say something similar, but I don't think that's set in stone. There's not really a 'season' for kitchen remodels. Whenever you have the money saved, that's usually when I jump into things. | http://www.k-binnovations.com/kitchens/

I would have to disagree with you, Jake. Although I do believe winter is the best time for home renovations, I don't think you have to remodel your entire house all at once. Most people do not have the money for that, especially around the holidays. I think it is fine to renovate one room at a time because you are still increasing the value of your home.

The best time to remodel a kitchen is now. You don't want to wait to remodel a room, let alone, your kitchen. As one of the most popular rooms of your home, you want to keep your kitchen in good condition. Remodeling can really help improve the image of your kitchen, as well as boost the value of your home altogether.

I didn't realize that, but it makes sense. My kitchen is outdated and in poor repair. I was not planning to start my renovation until summer, but I am reconsidering. If it will be cheaper in the winter, the remodel might become my Christmas present.

I agree, usually the winter months are the best time to get your kitchen remodeled. The prices don't usually come down very much, but you may be able to get the job done more quickly. I would love to get new counter tops in my kitchen this year for Christmas. http://hollywoodbathrooms.com.au

I agree with this point, it only makes sense that slower months would have to charge less to get business. For San Francisco, I would assume from November to February would be the least busy; therefore the cheapest time to remodel. The way to know for sure is to get quotes from different kitchen remodeling companies.

I have done a number of renovation projects, and my advice is this. Don't spend a ton of money on super high end appliances unless you are flipping a high end property. If you're going to live in it for a while most likely the buyers will replace the appliances when they move in anyway. Be smart about materials - you can buy really nice tile for $4 a piece or $40 a piece. Don't go cheesy on flooring and don't do something just because it's trendy now because it may not be in the future.

Compare labor costs. Huge difference from one contractor to another. Example, we had 4 bids on a tile job that ranged from $5K to $14K.

If you would like some references for materials and/or contractors contact info is below.

Thanks for the information. I was going to ask, what remodeling do you want? If you're going to paint your cabinets or take out a wall, that's obviously going to require different contractors than those who will change your appliances for stainless steel ones or install a splashback. Take your time and research options before you jump into the remodel. There's a lot that you can look at before you begin. Good luck!

Since this is going to be for your own needs, I recommend going for a functional kitchen over flash. In a few years, the functional kitchen will still be that however, a flashy kitchen may not look so hot any longer.

Best of luck.

Well, Baris - I don't want you to waste your money, but I do want you to enjoy life while you're there. Make your kitchen the way you want it, because we can't anticipate the tastes of buyers in 2018 or 2023.

All the best,

That depends - are you remodeling to sell the house or for your own needs? Less busy times might be better however, the market in SF has been so hot that there does not seem to be any difference. I need to know more about the scope of your intended work so I can make recommendations. Feel free to contact me directly.

It really depends on what you're planning to remodel. If you want to do it in stages (first flooring, then appliances, then splashback and counters), then I think you can do it whenever you want. It's only if you're going to do it all at once that you need to plan a season. http://www.midlandglass.com.au/kitchen-splashbacks

There are definitely some parts of the year when you'll get a significantly better price. I think that getting it done around the holidays will mean that the company has less jobs to do and will be able to do your work quicker and with more detail. That may not be true for all companies though. If I were you, I'd look into a variety of companies to find a few that I like, then you can talk to them to figure out when the best times to hire them are. They will have more ability than anybody else to give you that information.

The busy season for remodeling is definitely the summer. The spring is also busier. I would suggest remodeling your kitchen in the winter. Since the weather is mild enough in San Francisco, you can still find an available contractor with ease there. The rates will be better for you since there are more contractors to choose from.

I think it depends on the contractor. Some contractors are busier than others and their busy times change from contractor to contractor. Overall though, I don't think it makes much difference whether they are busy or not. If a contractor takes on your job, that usually means they have time to give it the proper attention it needs. Good luck with the remodel Baris. http://kavinconstructioninc.com/

I have heard there are some contractors that have a hard time finding work in the winter months. They seem to lower their rates in the winter in order to try to find work. I know my parents are doing a kitchen remodel right now and I think they're getting a good deal. http://www.familyandfriendsbuilders.com/Remodeling___Renovat…

I'd definitely recommend aiming for the winter months. Less people get things done to their house because they want holiday money. Because there's less work being done they are able to focus on your project and can get it done more quickly. This could also lead to it being more affordable.

Well I would insist you to go for remodeling of your house, where you can always avail housing loan with a low rate of interest. But would insist you to go through the terms & condition properly.

As a guess I would say the winter months. People tend not to want in and out foot traffic of the weather is less than desirable. Also construction projects are more know for happening during the summer, so contractors might have a little less on their plates during winter.
