Need info regarding a small addition.

Asked by giantilio, Oyster Bay, NY Mon Dec 10, 2012

I am looking at a home in Oyster Bay which lists for 420k. The taxes are about 8k. It is a 3 bedroom house with 1 bathroom upstairs. I would like to add a small (5x6) full bathroom to the downstairs. This would not add to the footprint of the house. Does anyone have an idea as to how much the taxes would increase?

Hi Giantilio, you can find some of the information on the Town of Oyster Bay web-site. I've included a link you a brochure that should give you some help…

The above link is to the "Home Improvement & Assessement" broshure. You can also call the Nassau County Assessment Department at 516-571-2490. Good luck.

You should check with the town for any necessary permits beforehand, also check with the tax assessor's office

There is a very simple solution to this. Call the town and ask them. You really should have a permit to do so or may run into issues when you want to sell.

Hello Giantillo. I am not sure as to how much your taxes would increase. However, you could check with the Nassau County's Assessors office to try to receive an estimate as to how much the addition will cost in annual taxes.

I hope this answered your question! If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me by the ways below.
