How expensive is it to take down paneling and put up sheet rock?

I am looking at a home that needs a bit of updating. The second floor is all paneling. Is it expensive to get that changed to sheet rock?

It depends on the size of the room and condition of the wall behind. you can use a thin sheetrock to go over the walls, they will tape, mud, sand and paint at a relatively low cost. Usually a 12x12 room can be done for $2000. it does depend on the area and going rates for workers. You should be able to get some free estimates prior to bidding to be sure of the exact cost.

It can be based on how paneling was installed. You might be able to float over with sheet rock not remove paneling, or mud in paneling cracks Kilz over paneling paint over it. I have seen some great walls were fabric over paneling JUST few suggestions, try a google search other solutions, your retailers who sale products for Do It yourself projects have great suggestions.
