Hi, if you're interested in purchasing a property, try working with a local Realtor to help with your home search. The information online isn't always accurate or complete as the MLS in which Realtors have access to.

San Carlos ,Belmont, San Mateo, or live and work in the Redwood Shores area. They have the shopping center there, library, public transportation. But I believe it is limited times for the bus. El Camino nearby has constant public buses running and the train is there as well in all the communties.

Good Luck in your search!

Hi Sunny,

Yes there are boundaries for the schools in neighborhoods. There are sometimes situations where you are in a certain area and the school is full. So always check with the school in the area where you are thinking of purchasing.

Best of Luck to you and family!

I would say it depends what style you like and both are very desirable. Prices have appreciated dramatically in both neighborhoods. Completely different styles. Both good areas. Hope that helps.

Good afternoon,

First steps:

Meet with a Local Mortgage Banker to get prequalified for mortgage financing. The Mortgage Banker will review all facets of your loan request to answer your questions with regards to the types of loans and maximum loan amounts you could qualify for.

Line up a Home Inspector. A good home inspector will scare the heck out of you: that's what you pay him for! But you'll concentrate on the fundamentals of the property: roof free of leaks, plumbing, heating and electrical up to code and in good working order. Again, when you make an offer and you have your Home Inspector ready to go, your offer will be considered with much more interest by a Seller because you truly have your "ducks in a row" and your preparation demonstrates your serious attitude about conducting the purchase transaction in a timely manner.

Find an experienced Local Realtor who works in your desired shopping area. A serious pro Realtor will refuse to show you homes until you are Prequalified for mortgage financing. Don't take offense! That Realtor doesn't want you to be disappointed and wants you to have a smooth experience as you shop for your new home.

Put together your Team of real estate professionals and shop 'til you drop!

This is a great price for a home in Redwood Shores. there are many more townhomes and condos than single family homes, and almost none under a million, so my guess is this will go quickly.

Hi Sarah,

There is a great new townhome development call the Preserve by KB Homes. There is a lot of information on their site http://www.kbhome.com/Community~CommID~00650485.aspx

Not sure what your price range is as well. If you can give an idea of price range and # of beds and baths you need, sq footage, etc., then I would be more than happy to search around for you for places that would not only fit your criteria, but also be a nice complex. Feel free t contact me if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Hi Vee09,

I love Redwood Shores and had lived there for over 10 years. Sold all the Ryland Homes, townhomes by AM homes now Lennar also condos by DKB near the shopping center.
Great community, quiet , feels like living in a resort but yet close to everything. For families......near jogging, biking and walking trails, good schools and the new library.
Thinking of buying a condo or a house? I could help you.

As much as one would like to be able to predict the future, it is not possible.
In my 31 years selling property on the Peninsula, most markets move together.
If prices increase in Palo Alto, they will increase in Mt. View.
If prices dorp in San Carlos, they will also drop in Belmont.
So I do not think one can predict which city will do better than another.
If you believe in this area and the local economy over the next 5 years, then property values will increase in ALL cities on the Peninsula.
I would say if you job is stable and you know you will be in this area for 5 to 7 years and if you buy within your financial means, then buying a house will be a good thing for you.
Most of the people who get hurt in real estate buy beyond their financial means.
If you buy in a prudent financial matter, I believe long-term you will come out a winner by buying now.
Interest rates are down, prices are down.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
I was showing property in Redwood Shores on Sunday.

Janie and John Barman answered:
Hi Jessie,

It is a common misconception that a property that appears on RealtyTrac is therefore for sale. RealtyTrac simply tracks where in the foreclosure process a home is - not the reason it is there or a homeowner's intentions. Just because a homeowner has received a NOD does not imply that they want to sell or are even in distress.

That being said, there is a much better chance that a home listed as REO may be for sale, but even this is not necessarily the case.

Searching for homes for sale using RealtyTrac is akin to assuming that a home with a dumpster in front indicates the owner is getting ready to move. Some certainly will be, but much of the time you will be spinning your wheels. Oh, and sorry about the lame analogy!

Joyce,

Don't know if you have found a place yet but you can't go wrong if you find a place in Redwood Shores, San Carlos (which neighbors Redwood Shores), or Belmont. You have to be careful in Redwood City itself as there are good areas and bad areas. Sometimes close to each other. Make sure you always try to stay on the west side of El Camino Real if you are looking at San Carlos, Belmont, or Redwood City. The more west you go from there the nicer it becomes. Most neighborhoods around Alameda De Las Pulgas are nice areas in all 3 cities (Belmont, San Carlos, Redwood City). If you have children San Carlos schools are better than Redwood City schools on average, don't know about Belmont schools. My husband has worked in Redwood Shores, we've lived in San Carlos and our kids have been in Redwood City Schools for the last 6 years so I have a good idea what I am talking about.

It is a good time to buy if you can and www.craigslist.com is a great resource for rentals.

If you have any questions or need any help you can email me at scrapnstamp@live.com.

Good luck in your search.
