Germantown is the safest city in TN I understand. Having lived here off and on since high school, I can vouch that it is a great place to live, work, go to school, and raise a family. It is also an expensive place to live, but worth it!

If you want to live in a crime free neighborhood then Germantown (38138 zip) is your choice. Police response times for household alarms run under 4 minutes (I've timed my neighbors numberous times and Germantown keeps stats on things like this. Germantown recently began proceedings to leave the Shelby County Ambulance service because response times were getting too long. The County screamed foul and has come to the table with more ambulances in order to keep Germantown happy.

Please note that traffic speeds are enforced in Germantown. If you consistently speed or run red lights (we have photo enforcement at some intersections) stay away.

We have lived in the Mid-town area (38107 & 38104) for five years with no trouble. The homes/apartments in the area are beautiful older architecture and convenient to most ammenities of a larger city. Crime can happen anywhere, be smart and stay safe no matter where you choose. We talked with neighbors before moving in and got valuable information from our realtor as to where to locate crime statistics. Do your homework and you'll enjoy Memphis.

If you can commute, there are townships north of Memphis - Millington, Covington, etc. It's still quiet and away from the Memphis traffic. That is only if you want to commute tho'.

Well, you can completely dismiss all of the other answers to your question now - Germantown is officially going to the dogs, just like the rest of Memphis...There were 5 yes five home invasion type robberies in ONE DAY - this was about 2 months ago. And Germantown was supposedly the last bastion of safety in Memphis. Memphis has officially gone to hell in a handbasket.
