What Are your views on flooding in the South Gateway Neighborhood?

Asked by Sgna Focus, South Gateway, Salem, OR Tue Feb 17, 2009

I see that there are neighborhoods with serious flooding issues. What are your views about the storm water in the creeks causing flooding both in the neighborhoods and to Mill Creek residents in downtown Salem. Could the future opportunities for housing development be reduced? They say a developer wants to build homes in a flood plain on an old golf course. Will these homes be protected from flood damage?

Retirees often seek opportunities for recreation like open spaces to walk, play tennis and golf. Salem appears to be reducing these recreational opportunities, what are you doing to protect the quality of life and enhance recreation near the homes in South Gateway area?

Get to the hearings and make noise. We have no business building in flood zones no matter what in my opinion. The systems in place are bought and paid for politically by MONEY ! The squeaky wheel gets consideration. Be vocal. Study the land use codes. Use the appeals system to fight for what you believe in. By all means do this. It is rewarding and the right thing to do. I have opposed development many times if it did not make sense. You can not stop it but you can change the outcome for the better!

Good question. Let me know what you do if anything!

Best of luck;
