It depends what you consider interesting. GR is becoming a college town (Calvin, Aquinas, Kendall, GVSU, CC plus more) and as a result there are lots of young and hip parts of town with restaurants, bars, book stores, music, museums, art. If you have school aged kids, interesting neighborhoods might be those in better school districts like East Grand Rapids (EGR), Forest Hills or Rockford. If you're an empty nester and like to golf, there are some great condos on golf courses. So it really depends what stage of life you're in and what your interests are. EGR has a population of around 10,000 and is a walking community. Great public schools, fabulous new library, scenic (two lakes, walking trails), plenty of parks and recreational facilities. It's an established community with mature trees and stately homes. I could go on and since I am an EGR native. After having lived in other parts of the country for 25 years, I'm back in good ole EGR raising a family. And yes, EGR is close to downtown GR - a 5 minute drive or a 10 minute bike ride.

East Grand Rapids is the best! Everything is within walking distance or a bike ride away–parks, lake, pools, schools, shops, hospital....the public safety and public library are the best! Our home is on the market here in EGR. We're moving closer to our work but know someday we'll move back. You just can't find a better, nicer place to live. Hope this helps!

East Grand Rapids is a city here in the Grand Rapids Metro area. It has a lake and a small park that is nice to visit in the summer. EGR is very expensive as far as homes and property taxes as they have excellent schools. But the sewer backs up into homes in the lower lying areas so if you move there be careful about where your house is. Forest Hills and Cascade have good schools also. Rockford is further away but is a cute town with river access.

Hi Mike,

I'm only 3 weeks late in seeing your message!

East Grand Rapids is just fine, and close to everything. 14 Years ago, downtown Grand Rapids was pretty scrubby, but we have really moved up in the world. Today Grand Rapids is wonderful, and as a resident, I am thrilled with our progress as a city.

If you need any help looking, give me a call.

I hope this information helps! Best Wishes to you!

Hi Mike and Welcome! I live in EGR, moved here 7 years ago and love it. We picked EGR for many reasons, but one was how close it was to Down Town, as we like the arts, concerts and going out to eat! I have started a blog on Relocating to Grand Rapids.........check it out.............
My website has many links that can help you with area information and schools. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me!
