My parents are looking to retire should they look at 55/retirement communities, where you don't own the land?

Asked by Jennifer, East Coast FLORIDA Tue Sep 9, 2008

I live Australia. Trying to help. Sister lives Weston/Plantation. They live Jax Beach. Will look anywhere East Coast, From Jax Bch down to North,FT. Laud, but not central FL. Price Range under 200k. Without massive HOA. Dad golfs. Mom wants pool, access. Prefer 3 bed or 2 with study, and a garage. I like the idea of Patio Home instead of land lease situation. Anybody out there have any ideas?

Hello Jennifer,

There are so many options in the Jacksonville and surrounding area. A lot would depend on what your parents are wanting. There are retirement communities that have a lot to offer, but there are condo / townhome / patio home communities that could serve your parents better. I agree that the best option would be a place where they would not have a yard to maintain, that would allow more time to play golf and do the things they like to do. I would say investigate both options and then pick the best option for your parents. I would be happy to help you all with your search. Give me a call and we can discuss.

Consider Crossville Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau, the golf capitol of Tennessee. Their money will go farther here: lower taxes, lower insurance, lower HOA fees, inexpensive golf, great four season weather, friendly people. They need to come looksee poke-around. Call me 888-824-2121 or e-mail for websites to the area. DAVE
