I am a realtor, LCAM property mgr., and I'm very active in Broward Schools, as a member of the Diversity Committee, Chair of the Site Visitation comm., and a member of the Educ. Adv. Comm. of Hallandale Beach & Chair of Hallandale HS task force.
If you want to research public schools in Palm Beach, contact Rita Solnet, who's an education activist up there. She is on Facebook. However, I do know that there is one lawsuit and another possibly coming up from unhappy parents/community.
Broward Schools is 6th largest in the Country. We've been finalists 2 yrs in a row for Broad grants and just got our SACS accreditation renewed. We have a new superindent Runcie fr Chicago public schools, who is going to reorganize the system, and his academic goals are very progressive and creative. I'm hopeful that we will finally catch up to the schools from the North.
Weston has great schools; most are A rated...so does Pembroke Pines. Davie has the Nova lottery schools plus McFatter HS. But, throughout the Browards' school system, there are magnet programs that offer you great choices. Go to the State Dept. of Ed website or http://www.browardschools.com
and you can do some research. Another website is the "great neighborhoods" website or the "great schools" and they will compare schools for you. Whether it be public schools or charter schools, you need to do individual school research.
Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Beach markets rated 5th in the Nation for appreciation this past year. We increased 12% from last year, which is a great sign that our real estate market is coming back. Jacksonville was #4. While Palm Beach is doing well, it's not increasing as aggressively. Therefore, if you purchase a home in Broward, most likely, your equity will grow faster.
If you need any help in the search, let me know your priorities and your price range; I'll set up a customized search for you. I just closed a first home for a client in Davie and got them a great FHA deal with 3.5% down payment w no pre-payment penalty and it's assumable:) Or, you can go to our website and search yourself with current information from the mlx (multiple listing). If you have any quetions or want further details about the properties you see on that website, email me: firstname.lastname@example.org or call: 954-536-0648.
Looking forward to being of further assistannce.
