That area of San Jose is known as South San Jose or Santa Teresa area.
That particular block of housing is pretty with lots of forest-y trees, very close to the freeway for a decent commute.
As for schools, here is a pretty good map that shows this to be in the Oak Grove School District:
Oak Grove has K-6 elementaries and 7-8 grade middle schools. The high school is in the East Side Union High School District, Oak Grove High School. Oak Grove is a big high school with a lot of opportunities -- yet possibly not considered the "most" college bound of the ESUHSD high schools with an API (one of the ways schools are rated) of 704.
You can type in street names and numbers and find out the name of the high school here if they are in ESUHSD:
For crime, I use http://www.CrimeReports.com.
You can type in any address and get what kinds of crime happen.
The Santa Teresa area isn't particularly crime-oriented if you look at all of the areas. It is characterized by a nice style of living, family oriented (in general) and the home values have gone down over the last several years as they have elsewhere in the state.
The schools overall are mid-level if you want to make a sweeping generalization. There are pockets of excellence in the elementaries in the district, but overall, it's not as high ranking as some of the other school districts and regions of San Jose for a similar price.
As far as the commute, without knowing where you would be commuting "to" that's almost impossible to answer!
