Hello Shan,
As a lifelong resident and Realtor in Norwalk, I can certainly help you. For the most part, East Norwalk and West Norwalk are good areas, whereas areas in South Norwalk and downtown (central) Norwalk have some areas better than others. As a single woman, Norwalk is a great place to live. The downtown area of South Norwalk (SoNo) has been renovated and is just wonderful. The Washington Street area and the immediate surrounding streets are fabulous. The area offers plenty of restaurants, clubs, shops, museums and you can walk to the train station or Long Island Sound. Easy comute to I-95 & the Merritt Parkway as well.
East Norwalk is an area of Norwalk unto itself. It is the beach area and is pretty self contained. A bit quieter than South Norwalk, offering everything that South Norwalk offers, but less commercial. Also very convenient to highways, shops and trains.
I hope this has helped you and if I can be of further help, please feel free to contact me.
It really all depends on your personal preferences, as well as your pocketbook! If you provide additional information, I could narrow your search a bit more.
