Are there any good schools in Midtown? Want to avoid a long comute to downtown.

There are some great public schools in Midtown. Check out Idlewild, Snowden and Peabody Elementary, Snowden Middle, and Central High School. A little further east, Grahamwood Elementary and White Station Middle and High. So many are willing to write off Memphis City Schools without even having a look. I suggest you visit the Memphis City Schools website for more information, or speak to some parents who are supportive of MCS.

Snowden Elementary School is a very good public K-8th (yes it inlcudes middle school) with an optional program. The Snowden Boundary is basically Poplar on the South, Jackson to the North, East Parkway to the East and I believe Cleveland on the West, but please check with MCS.

There are several other highly regarded public elementary schools, namely Peabody and Idlewild, but the other midtown middle schools don't have the rep that Snowden School has.

Central HS is the midtown public HS and is a good school, especially if your kids are optional students (I know teachers that rave about the optional kids at Central).

Plenty of quality private schools but your location isn't a prerequisite.

YES! There are several excellent schools. Are you looking for public? Private? Elementary? Middle? High? Does your student require special programs? What are your student’s special interests? Not to over simplify your quest but choosing a school is very similar to choosing your home. What are your absolute requirements? General wants? Then your dream list? Everybody needs education, but what specifically are your absolute requirements? General wants? Your dream list? There are several websites that offer school ratings and statistics to help narrow your search. MEMPHIS Magazine has a whole section on education in the August issue. Good Luck!
