Hi Brittany,

The property may be for rent, but, it is likely not.

There is common scam that works like this:

1. Scammer advertises a place for rent online.
2. Prospective tenants are told that the landlord lives out of town and can't meet them in person.
3. Scammer asks the tenant to wire the deposit.

I have seen this happen many times. The fact that the scammers use data from real estate that is for sale makes it seem more legit.

The best way to protect yourself is to NEVER wire money to someone in order to rent a place. All legitimate rentals will have someone who can meet and show you the property in person.

Hope that helps!
