Hey Decbabe,

A deed is an instrument used to transfer title. Simply put, if you dad owns the building, and has title to the property, there should be a deed recorded.

You can search for a copy of the deed used to transfer the ownership of the property at the county's recorder of deeds office. Have not used Will county's recorder of deeds office. Cook County's Recorder of Deeds has a great website. You can order copies of old documents and search by property pin number.

Best of Luck
