Asked by Nancynanu1, Northville, MI Fri Oct 28, 2011

6 months takes me to Feb 29 2012. Can I count on being able to stay until then? Am moving out of state and would like to stay through Feb 2012 and am planning that way. Please let me know if my time line is correct. Thank you.

I think you should contact your bank to get the facts on your home, seeing your home on a public web site like Realty Trac is not where I would be comfortable getting this information. Has the bank or attorney posted anything on your door? You must have a contact number.

What Ken said is basically correct. The 5-6 K (cash for keys) is not the norm. Maintain the home. Leave it broom clean. Do not remove furnace, Hot Water Heater, dishwasher, fan or any hardware . Try not to leave any refuse or do any damage to the home. Make sure the water is turned off and even winterized. Leave the keys. The banks will take into consideration the condition of home when they decide whether to attempt to collect debt. The more the home sells for later, the better it bodes for you. Good Luck Nancy.

You have 6 months from the sherriff sale date to vacate. At that time a realtor hired by the bank will come knocking on your door offering cash for keys. Basically if you leave your home within a set amount of time, the bank will pay you to move. Sometimes up to 5-6k. Simultaneously the bank will begin the eviction process, so that if you don't agreeably move out they can have you removed.

I help alot of people in your situation understand the process. If you want to discuss feel free to call/email anytime.

Good Afternoon! If your mortgage says 6 months redemption then you are thinking correctly. If you are not out on the 29th of February they will file eviction paperwork.

Good Luck,
