How do we get out of our money pit home?

Asked by feedback71, Topeka, KS Thu Jul 10, 2014

The home needs several repairs, some majorly expensive.
We aren't in bad financial shape right now. We just don't have a lot of extra money to go around. And in about 3 years we should be in a lot better shape. I just don't want to sink a ton of money into this house. We are both in our early 40s and would like to be in position to buy our "dream" home in 4-5 years, if not sooner. We've spent a lot of money in the past 6 or 7 year on many repairs/upgrades but still need more repairs in order to make it able to sell. The problem is that we are having trouble being able to afford making our mortgage and having the extra dough to spend on repairs. We would like to move into a home that doesn't always have something going wrong and costing more money. But how do we get out of this one? We feel like we are trapped.
