1) Interview agents to determine how you feel comfortable talking with them about your real estate needs, desires, and criteria. Choose an agent that listens to you, is seasoned in their profession with passion and experience. Choose an agent knowledgeable about properties you are looking for. Ask for more information about the property you may be interested in viewing on trulia. You may also consider contacting the listing agent that is show casing their listing on Trulia. Listing agent and buyers selling agent will both have an interest in working with you. We are hired by the seller to obtain a successful sale selling their home. A reputable listing agent can represent both parties professionally and ethically. If you feel you prefer only one side representation, then contact another agent to represent your purchase side of the transaction. Some agents call themselves buyers agents and who only work with buyers. I work with both buyers and sellers. My experience is balanced on both sides of the transacation. First things first. Let me advise you to seek a loan approval from a qualified loan processor professional.
You may know of someone you already have a relationship with in your banking history or someone your family can refer you to locally. If not walk in to one of the mortgage companies or banking institutions, sit down and begin to ask your questions how do you get started. After interviewing, you will know who you feel confident in sharing more information with as you will have to bring forth your fianncial inforamtion to have it verified and documented as part of your loan approval process.

Now lets talk more about your selection of a realtor/licensed real estate agent/ broker to represent you. It annoys me to say the least whenever I hear another real estate professional say never to use a licensed real estate agent. First of all, it has no real bearing on the work experience of the licensed agent, or the realtor or broker for that matter. One can be of years of quality successful experience or not. It does not guarantee the code of eithics one uses when he or she performs. Nor does it guarantee the continuing education or other educational workshops, seminars and training one has invested in for their performance to earn the business of the buyer or seller clients.
To be candid, I am a qualified licensed real estate professional working in our Real Estate Industry here in Humboldt County, and other neighboring counties. Licensed real estate agent merely means you are a MLS member and not a Humboldt Association member.
I have been a C.A.R. member all the 15 year s of my license until I came to Humboldt County and joined an office that was a non member as there are so many non members in Humboldt County. I am now working for a corporate company that is a national brand name company. At some time soon I may become a member of Humboldt Association of Realtors by choice for many different reasons.
I strongly urge you not to ever discount the skills of a professional in our industry merely because someone suggests never to consider anyone but.

Hi Lacey,

Starting the home buying process for the first time can be a little overwhelming. I suggest interviewing a Realtor who can represent you as your Buyer Agent. It is important to know that you can have an agent who represents and negotiates for you and not the seller in a transaction. If you find a home on this site, you can inquire with the Listing Agent (Seller's Agent) who is most like linked to the ad. However, keep in mind the Listing Agent is working for the seller. You're better off to find a Buyer Agent to represent you first and have them inquire on the property on your behalf. Most Realtors have access to all the homes for sale in an area. If you find the right Buyer Agent, he or she will have access to show you everything on the market, and represent your best interests as well. Ask your friends or family if they have an agent who they can refer you to. Or simply call a local real estate office and ask to interview a couple agents. It is a Buyer's market right now so don't sell yourself short. Take the time to find the right Realtor. Also be sure your Agent is a Realtor and not just a Real Estate Agent.
