I'll assume you're UCLA or Santa Monica College students based on proximity to both campuses. If not, then I'll make the quick note that it's not near any other campuses.... so I'll lend my advice as both a resident who lives in the area and a father of a UCLA student:
High rollin. Who wouldn't want to live in Bel Air during their college years, right? Great space, incredible views, very remote to keep you from those pesky on campus distractions (translation, no excuses not to study!) Again assuming you're at UCLA it should be a short trip to campus at most times.
Roscomare is like a freeway and is very secluded from the city. There are no sidewalks and the roads are narrow, there are many hills and the road to campus winds a bit. (translation, forget walking to campus and polish your safety skills if riding a bike.) I'd highly suggest a scooter to get you to and from campus.
Another note - traffic. early morning beginning @ 7:30am out the West Gate and up Roscomare from the West Gate in the early afternoon. This is the only way in or out so if Roscomare is backed up you're out of luck, unless you drive around the mountain.
There are a lot of students living in or around this area and overall it's very convenient to campus, but takes some planning to really make it work.
Good luck in school!
